The plan was to launch the incentive in the early part of the year with the trip to happen in November. We had been chosen to plan the full trip along with onsite management to ensure the smooth running of the whole event.
Computers Unlimited hadn’t run an incentive event for several years so wanted to choose a destination and itinerary that would create a huge ‘wow’ factor to inspire and motivate their customers who were competing in a league table in order to qualify for the trip.
The destination had to be abroad and we were looking for somewhere for three nights so the destination had to have a manageable flight time, but also had to feel exciting and exclusive.
After an exhaustive search all over the globe, we decided a trip to Dubai that incorporated going to Abu Dhabi to watch the Grand Prix would be perfect, and a definite ‘once in a lifetime’ trip.
As the winners were all from different companies we wanted a programme of activities where everyone could get to know each other whilst experiencing the beauty of Dubai. We chose a stunning 5* hotel that was small enough to feel exclusive and had excellent beach facilities for the group to enjoy during their free time.
After an evening arrival into Dubai with drinks and a tapas dinner, we arranged a catamaran excursion the following morning that sailed around The Palm with a bar and a BBQ on board. This was the perfect way to spend the morning, the weather was beautiful and being on the water meant that there was a cooling breeze. Following the cruise, we took the group in 4x4s for a desert safari with dune bashing – their journey ended in the middle of the desert where a gazebo was set up with Arabic decoration to watch the beautiful sunset whilst enjoying crudities and sparkling date juice. The day concluded with a traditional Arabic dinner at a restaurant back in Dubai city and more drinks and dancing at the beach bar!
The next day, before heading to Abu Dhabi, we took the group up to the viewing deck of the Burj Khalifa which offered spectacular views of Dubai and gave a true sense of the environment that we had all been enjoying. It was then time for the main event and we journeyed up to Abu Dhabi for the Grand Prix. After spending the afternoon exploring the grounds and sampling the food and drinks that were on offer, we settled in our seats in the South Grandstand to watch the race. The group was then treated to a dinner back in Dubai in the beautiful surroundings overlooking the Burj Khalifa and the stunning fountains that came to life to music every half an hour.
On the last morning, the group had free time to enjoy the hotel and the beach, followed by a lunch on the terrace before their flight back to London.
The whole trip ran extremely smoothly and came in on budget. The group got on brilliantly and very much enjoyed the combination of activities – even those who weren’t particular F1 fans couldn’t help but be completely blown away by the spectacle of the setting and experience of the Grand Prix.
We received thank you’s from everyone who went on the trip which confirmed that we managed to create a unique and fantastic trip for everyone. Computers Unlimited were very happy with how everything went and we are beginning the planning of next year’s trip.
