One of our Senior Project Executives, Becky Garnett recently visited Trump Turnberry to find out what they have to offer corporate groups for events, conferences and incentives. Take a look below at her account of the hotel and get in touch with the events team if you have any events requirements.

One year ago, I was fortunate enough to visit the peaceful west coast of Ireland. This year I have been blessed with another rugged west coast…in Scotland! And the connection? Trump Hotels! Last weekend I visited the legendary Turnberry Hotel, fresh from its two-hundred-million-pound refurbishment, blue-eyed and bushy-tailed and ready for the corporate world! Where to begin?

The hotel is home to famous links golf courses, including the iconic Ailsa, an Open Championship course four times over. The hotel itself opened in 1906 as the world's first golf resort, but for those less inclined to swing a club, like me, you needn’t worry. The 5* luxury hotel has so much to offer, including the elegant Grand Tea Lounge & Bar, a variety of on and offsite activities and an upcoming spa refurbishment. With 9 versatile meeting rooms and 103 fully refurbished bedrooms, there is little that Turnberry can’t accommodate, the most breath-taking room of all, of course, being the Donald J Trump ballroom which can accommodate an astonishing 550 guests.

On Friday a group of 10 (plus 2 Account Managers) from all corners of the UK embarked on a journey to the quaint Ayrshire, a land steeped in history, famous for Rabbie Burns and Robert the Bruce.

At 6 pm we were chauffeured for welcome pre-dinner drinks and canapes in the iconic Stevenson Lighthouse Suite, boasting panoramic views across the water to the Isle of Arran. The lighthouse serves as a halfway house for golfers but is also perfectly set up for exclusive use, cosy and coastal – personally, two of my favourite things!

8 pm saw us heading to dinner at The Duel in the Sun restaurant, just opposite the hotel, one of the most luxurious clubhouses I have ever experienced, and featuring a delicious steak and lobster menu. The ambience was suitably relaxed and it was a welcomed conclusion to our travelling day.

A short 12 hours later and it was time for a Scottish breakfast! Served in the 1906 restaurant, haggis was a popular option on the extensive menu.

Next up was our show round, which was incredibly beneficial. As I mentioned earlier, there is a broad range of meeting rooms, but more importantly, there is a consistency of product through natural daylight and décor which makes this property such an easy sell. The rooms are incredibly light and bright, and contain some of the 300+ chandeliers, designed by and aptly named ‘Ivanka’.

After lunch at The Duel in the Sun restaurant the group headed en mass to team building at the onsite activity centre, Turnberry Adventures! On arrival we chose if we’d rather do archery or quad biking and were split into two groups, both groups also getting the opportunity to do clay pigeon shooting. The whole experience was exhilarating, both instructors were patient, including one inspiring 74-year-old instructor who’d been shooting since he was 8!

As the evening came in we naturally settled into one of the boardrooms with a Turnberry whiskey expert and made our way through 3 single malts, experiencing the real taste of Scotland! This experience would be perfect for a small corporate group as a pre-dinner activity.

From the whiskey tasting, we joined our Account Managers, Chris and Melissa in the bar for some bubbles before an 8 pm celebratory gala dinner in the signature restaurant, 1906. The pre-dinner drinks brought an introduction to the resident bagpiper, who told the anticipating audience of the elegant Grand Tea Lounge stories of Haggis and enthusiastically recited from memory ‘Address to a Haggis’ by Burns. I was captivated! We then proceeded to dinner and, as a vegetarian, I’m often offered the same option for meals but the hotel created a completely bespoke mushroom wellington, which was one of the best meals I’ve had in my life!

It was an absolute pleasure to be part of the trip, so thank you Trump Turnberry for hosting. As with Trump Doonbeg, I feel comfortable and proud to be proposing Trump Turnberry to clients and hope to be working an event there in the near future!
